About Mikhail Botvinnik

Mikhail Botvinnik was World Champion three separate times between 1948 and 1963 and the patriarch of the entire Soviet chess school. He treated chess like a science: preparing deeply at home, studying his opponents systematically, and playing positions he had already analysed. In an era when most players improvised, Botvinnik arrived at the board having already solved the game.

Playing style

Systematic and deeply prepared. Botvinnik plays principled, technically correct chess — building structural advantages, eliminating weaknesses, and converting with precise technique. No improvisation; every plan is grounded in thorough analysis.

How to interpret the displayed ELO

The number is a Ferzia training target, not an official FIDE rating or a claim that one game predicts a human result. Stockfish documents why engine ratings depend on match conditions and large samples; FIDE publishes separate regulations for ratings from registered over-the-board results. Historical-persona copy is a stylised product characterisation, not a biography.
